National Assembly President Urges to Uphold Buddhism

PHNOM PENH: National Assembly President Heng Samrin has encouraged Buddhist people to follow the Buddha's teachings consistently in order to uphold Buddhism. He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the General Assembly of the 29th Nationwide Monks on Monday morning on behalf of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.

In his opening remarks at the National Assembly of Monks this year, National Assembly President Heng Samrin has urged all Buddhists to adhere to the teachings of the Dharma accordance with their roles and responsibilities as monks or as a lay person, to support the maintenance of Buddhism to grow, because Buddhism grows or declines, it depends on all Buddhists.

He requested that all Buddhist leaders continue to adhere to mutual understanding, respect for each other according to the hierarchy, in order to achieve unity and solidarity in Buddhist institutions, and pray for all Buddhists continue to pay attention to the study of the Dharma-discipline and practice as a field for the sanctuary of the Buddhists.

The National Conference of Priests provides an opportunity to discuss and find solutions to current issues that are necessary for implementation in the coming years. Last year, the convention was skipped due to Covid-19.

The President of the National Assembly has commended the Ministry of Cults and Religions and the two groups of monks and all stakeholders for their active cooperation in supporting the development of Buddhism in line with the development of society at all any circumstances.

He has emphasized that in line with the development, there are still some challenges affected by modern technology, social media, which all stakeholders need to clearly understand and use in accordance with the context of progress in this field of technology.
